Experience Mongolia’s purest landscapes from
Khuvsgul’s blue waters to Terelj’s wild valleys
This 7-day journey leads you from the tranquil shores of Khuvsgul Lake—Mongolia’s legendary “Blue Pearl”—to the spectacular rock formations and forested valleys of Terelj National Park. Begin your adventure in Ulaanbaatar before flying north to Khuvsgul, where crystal-clear waters, evergreen forests, and nomadic culture create an atmosphere of pure serenity. Explore the lake by foot or horseback, meet local herders, and breathe in the crisp northern air.
Return to the capital and continue east into Terelj National Park, where dramatic granite cliffs, river valleys, and peaceful wilderness offer a perfect contrast to the north. Visit Turtle Rock, Aryabal Temple, and enjoy short hikes, cultural encounters, and nights in cozy ger camps. Conclude your journey with an inspiring visit to the towering Chinggis Khaan Statue before heading back to Ulaanbaatar.
An ideal adventure for travelers seeking natural beauty, gentle exploration, and an authentic connection to Mongolia’s landscapes and people.
Your journey begins as you land at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, where your
guide and driver warmly welcome you and accompany you to your hotel in the heart of
Ulaanbaatar. Once checked in, you have time to relax or take a gentle stroll around the
city center. Many travelers enjoy walking to Sukhbaatar Square to see the statues of
Mongolia’s greatest historical figures and observe the rhythm of daily city life. If time
allows, you may visit a museum or enjoy a local café. In the evening, your guide will
brief you about the upcoming adventure through Mongolia’s northern wilderness and
scenic national parks. Overnight in Ulaanbaatar.
After breakfast at the hotel, you transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Murun,
the capital of Khuvsgul province. The flight gives you a bird’s-eye glimpse of Mongolia’s
vast open steppes, rivers, and mountain chains. Once you land, your driver meets you
and begins the scenic drive toward Khuvsgul Lake. As you approach the lake, the
landscape changes dramatically into forested mountains, alpine meadows, and clear
rivers flowing from the north. Upon arrival at your lakeside ger camp, you settle into
traditional-style accommodation amid one of the most pristine natural environments in
the country. You can spend the afternoon walking along the shore or simply relaxing on
the terrace, listening to the sound of the waves gently brushing the pebbled beach.
Overnight in a ger camp by Khuvsgul Lake.
Today is dedicated to fully experiencing the beauty and serenity of Khuvsgul Lake. After
breakfast, you may start the morning with a hike through the surrounding forest, where
fresh mountain air mixes with the scent of larch and pine. If interested, horseback riding
can be arranged along the lakeshore, offering a peaceful way to appreciate the vast,
mirror-like water and the mountain ranges reflected upon it.
Depending on the season, it may be possible to visit a Tsaatan (reindeer herder) family,
who have preserved one of the most unique nomadic traditions in the world. Meeting
them offers insight into their reindeer-dependent livelihood, shamanic beliefs, and
remarkable adaptability to the harsh northern climate.
In the afternoon, you can enjoy quiet time at the lake, take photographs, or watch the
sunset paint the sky in layers of gold and blue. Overnight in a ger camp at Khuvsgul
Lake.
Today you begin with a visit to the Ariyapala Meditation Temple, located on a hillside
overlooking the valley. The climb to the temple rewards you with sweeping panoramic
views of the surrounding mountains, and the peaceful chants and prayer flags create an
atmosphere of tranquility.
Afterward, you may choose from several activities such as horseback riding through the
valleys, hiking to nearby lookout points, or visiting a local nomadic family. Spending time
with a herder family provides meaningful insight into the authentic nomadic
lifestyle—how they care for their animals, prepare food such as fresh dairy products,
and live in harmony with the natural environment.
The afternoon is yours to enjoy the quiet beauty of Terelj, whether it’s relaxing at the
lodge, walking among the rock formations, or watching the sun set behind the
mountains. Overnight in Terelj.
After breakfast, you leave Terelj and begin the journey back toward Ulaanbaatar,
stopping on the way at the world-famous Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex. This
towering stainless-steel statue of Mongolia’s legendary founder rises 40 meters high
and faces east, the direction from which he began his historic conquests.
Inside the complex, you explore the museum, which displays ancient artifacts, warrior
armor, traditional clothing, and exhibits related to the Great Mongol Empire. You may
then ascend using the internal elevator to the viewing deck located on the horse’s head,
where you can enjoy panoramic views over the vast steppe.
After your visit, the road leads you back to Ulaanbaatar. Arriving in the city, you settle
into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure—perhaps exploring shops, trying
Mongolian cuisine, or attending a cultural performance. Overnight in Ulaanbaatar.
Transfer to the airport for your flight home. Your guide will assist with check-in and
farewell arrangements.
End of the tour with unforgettable memories of Mongolia’s heartland.
